Volleyball at Wycliffe

Wycliffe Volleyball has been a part of the school for the last 10 years and is truly a community activity with involvement from parents and past and present students working together to make the program an amazing opportunity for fun, fitness and skill development.

2018 was a great year for the Volleyball program. Every Wednesday night and Friday morning, students of all ages joined together to learn how to play the game of Volleyball. Throughout the year we had a number of great achievements. Our Mixed Senior Volleyball team won the CSSA Volleyball Gala Day and our Year 9/10 Girls team took out GOLD in their very first NSW State Volleyball Schools Cup Tournament. In addition, a number of students took the opportunity to trial for CIS and other representative teams throughout the year – a fantastic opportunity to play at advanced levels. Another highlight of 2018 was our Social Volleyball competition, held during Term 3, which saw teachers, parents and students from past years compete against current students in a fun and enjoyable tournament where sporting prowess was an optional extra, but enjoyment was essential.

December 2018 saw an ultimate achievement for our Senior Boys squad when they attended the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup in Melbourne. This is the largest schools based competition in the Southern Hemisphere, Wycliffe joined 550 other teams for the week long tournament. Our team was placed in a Year 11 Division 3 pool and the boys competed hard against schools from Qld, Vic, SA and WA. While they struggled in their early games the boys went from strength to strength and lifted their performance, gaining vital experience in tactical team play to finish with 4 wins from 10 games and in 9th place in what ended up as a stunning performance.

Wycliffe Volleyball came of age during this week, and we hope this will continue in 2019. We are looking forward to restarting the Wycliffe Volleyball program this year and with more past students returning to coach, we look forward to sharing this wonderful sport with many other Wycliffe students (starting from Year 7 onwards). We hope to form more teams and host a larger social competition leading to further success on the courts during 2019.

The Volleyball program kicked off for 2019 in February. Training is held in the School Hall from 7.00am to 8.00am and new team members are always welcome. Representative teams will be training on Wednesday nights. For more information please contact our Volleyball Coach, Dan Catchpoole on 0408 297 594.
